Youth Tour Descends on Washington, D.C.

August 15, 2012

Young people from 42 states, including 112 students representing 49 Texas co-ops, spent nine days in the U.S. capital June 14-22 on the 2012 Government-in-Action Youth Tour.

The trip for the Texas delegation is coordinated by Texas Electric Cooperatives, and the Natural Rural Electric Cooperative Association hosts the event.

The annual excursion, inspired by then-Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson in 1957, sends rural students to tour historic monuments, landmarks and museums, and meet their congressional representatives and staffs. In all, 1,566 students and 281 chaperones from across the country participated in the 2012 Youth Tour.
