TEC Hosts Students for Career Week

May 1, 2017

Three high school seniors from Leander Independent School District shadowed Texas Electric Cooperative employees this spring through the Career Opportunities on Location program.

Pedernales EC members Jaci Chavera, Adrienne Dan and Rachel O’Brien were among 378 students visiting 162 companies in the United States and United Kingdom this year, the 21st year Leander ISD hosted COOL Week.

Dan’s chosen field is human resources, and she joined TEC HR Generalist Luci Hahn in Georgetown, while Chavera and O’Brien spent time at TEC headquarters learning about journalism and graphic design from the communications team.

“I’m an advocate for the COOL Week program not just because I’m a Leander ISD graduate, but because my role in human resources is about placing the right people in the right job,” Hahn says. “At 18, it’s a little hard to figure out what you want to do with your life. So, what better way to help mold the minds of the future and provide a real-life experience and insight into a job?”

In a note to TEC, Dan thanked Hahn, saying, “I learned so much from you and TEC and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to work with you. I loved the opportunity to see all that being a HR professional entails. You created such a wide variety of activities for me to do and truly made my experience truly unforgettable.
