TEC Conference Focuses on Member Service

October 20, 2014

Texas Electric Cooperative’s 2014 Member Services Conference in Austin offered a record number of speakers and concurrent sessions at the 43rd annual event held Oct. 15–17.

Conference sessions addressed a slew of issues that the member services sector faces each day. The training aims to help co-op professionals do their jobs efficiently and prepare for the future.

“You are the ones who get it and are going to have more of a role in what I believe will be a fundamentally changed marketplace going forward,” said TEC CEO Mike Williams.

In his industry update, he described influences that will affect co-ops in the future, including climate change policy, emissions regulations, grid security and market competition.

Nearly 30 speakers complemented Williams’ presentation, examining topics that included handling call center volume, annual meeting practices and the importance of communications. Highlights also included sessions on communicating distributed generation and net metering to members, energy rebates and audits, media buying, effectively using websites, social media topics and more. Two of four panel discussions featured state legislative staff and co-op managers.
