NRECA Legislative Conference Roundup

Nearly 2,500 co-op representatives—including about 150 Texans—went to Washington, D.C., from across the country to advocate for issues affecting rural co-ops at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s 2014 Legislative Conference.
The Texans engaged legislators and their staffs during visits to capitol offices. During the meetings, select legislators:
• Agreed to support a sufficiently long comment period for the Environmental Protection Agency’s coal plant rule.
• Pledged to help ensure that the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s policies are appropriate and consistently applied.
• Supported the effort to balance the preservation efforts of the Endangered Species Act with economic growth.
• Passed the Electrify Africa Act, which will allow NRECA International to provide electricity to rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa.
