nGreat Story, If You Can Read It

Can you please consider "older" or "weaker" eyes when choosing background colors for your articles? Although I have no trouble reading articles printed with black letters on white backgrounds, I am frustrated to discover that I am unable to read the article "Backwoods Churches" in the November 2003 issue of Texas Co-op Power because there is so little contrast between the brown background and the black print that I can't see it. I believe that I would find the article interesting if I could read it.

M.L. Spears, Bowie-Cass EC

nRecognizing a Veteran
Regarding the article "Living Free" by Tom Dodge [November 2003], the young man on the right in the picture of the three soldiers was my father, Roy V. Cody, then from Hamilton, Texas. My mother, Doris Shepherd Cody, has the same photo in one of our family albums. My dad, who was in the 84th Infantry Division, was also a POW in Germany in Stalag 3-A. Dad received several medals, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, as did Mr. Basham. He was also very proud of his service to his country and was given a full military burial when he passed away in 1998. I read your magazine regularly and enjoy it so much!

Royce Cody Davis, Trinity Valley EC

Editor's response: The article referred to in this letter did not appear in all local editions of Texas Co-op Power. Read these and other articles you might have missed on our website, www.texascooppower.com.

nCustomer Service in Capital Letters

We moved to Texas from Florida in December. We are served by Central Texas Electric Cooperative [CTEC], and I have to say it is one of the most pleasant experiences in our lives. In Florida, where we were also served by a co-op, when we had a power outage it could take hours for us to get through, more hours for the repair to be made, and most of the time we only spoke to an answering machine. Here, our calls are always taken right away, and if we do have to leave a message, we get a call back in record time. We always get an explanation of the problem and what stage the repairs are at. Additionally, we always get a call asking if our power has been restored. The people we speak to are always friendly and responsive and anxious to please. They spell customer service in capital letters. Our hats off to CTEC, and the staff who have made us feel really important and special.

Judith and David Rochelle, Central Texas EC

nPart of the Family

On November 6, I was taking a man from Rocksprings to Junction to catch a bus. About 10 miles from Junction, my clutch went out. Immediately, a Pedernales Electric truck turned back to assist. Noe Gonzales of the Junction office had someone en route for the vehicle in about 15 minutes and had the man on his way to the bus station in time for departure. Jerry Gonzales of the Junction office took me home. All I said was, "I'm part of the family." It really did feel like family. I knew I was safe with them, instead of having to depend on a stranger.

Shirley Capps, Pedernales EC

nLinemen Need Love, Too

As a native Texan, I enjoy your wonderful website. But what I most enjoy are your letters. I'm a lineman for a power company in New York, and truly appreciate all the compliments we receive from people--thank you. In times like this, when everyone wants a piece of Superman's cape, it's nice to hear how our hard work makes a difference. Again, thanks, and don't forget to number your house--it makes my job quicker.

Blas Ramirez
