The Texas Rural Electric Women's Association (TREWA)
is a statewide organization dedicated to providing
scholarships for its members' children. However,
the name is a little misleading. Although it was
created for and continues to be run by women, in
reality, many men are also members.
The scholarship funds come from the small ($6 per
year) membership dues, as well as a raffle and arts
and crafts sale at the Texas Electric Cooperatives
annual meeting each year.
Rural electric employees, directors and co-op members
are urged to become TREWA members for your children's
and grandchildren's benefit. Once you are a member,
your children and/or grandchildren are eligible to
apply for a $1,000 scholarship.
In 2000, TREWA provided seven $1,000 scholarships
to their members' children.
For more information about TREWA, contact your local
electric cooperative.
Scholarship forms and TREWA membership applications
are available from TREWA, c/o Texas Electric Cooperatives, Inc., 1122 Colorado, 24th Floor, Austin, Texas, 78701.
