Nine electric cooperatives band together each summer
to sponsor the East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar
(ETREYS). The seminar is held on the Stephen F. Austin
State University campus in Nacogdoches.
From 1989 through 2004, approximately 1,500 students
have attended the program. The ETREYS program fosters
positive ideals and values in young people. The seminar
enhances skills in leadership, problem solving and
interpersonal relationships. Participants have a
valuable opportunity to work with other top students
from throughout East Texas and to learn about rural
electrification.
In addition, numerous academic scholarships are
awarded at the conclusion of the seminar to students
pursuing higher education.
Bowie-Cass EC, Cherokee County EC, Deep East Texas
EC, Houston County EC, Jasper-Newton EC, Panola-Harrison
EC, Rusk County EC, Upshur-Rural EC and Wood County
EC are current sponsors of the seminar for high school
students in their service areas.
For more information about this year's seminar and
applications, please contact your local electric
cooperative.
